Imperial Love

Last night at Arkham, two of my buddies were playing a game of 40k. It was Dawn of War with Kill Points. One of the guys was playing Guard, and he deployed his entire platoon onto the battlefield. I commented that I think he deployed far too many units, citing the Rhino+Space Marines = 2 Troop Units.

We took a look at the FAQ, and they changed the wording to explicitly say that the entire platoon could deploy as one unit! Dang! That's crazy! It's not broken, but it's pretty useful.

This kinda goes with the current flow of 40k. I have been an Imperial player from Day 1. Grey Knight/Daemonhunters, to Space Wolves, to Space Marines, back to Wolves and now back to Grey Knights. There is an annoying pattern of inexplicable love for the Imperials and a distinct lack of love for the Xenos (Dark Eldar and Necrons(?) may be exceptions.)

GW! Make good Xenos rules and codexes!!!

PS. All Praise the Kelly!

My Bithday Today!

I have now turned 20 years old. Damn, it has been a long time since I was 10. A lot has changed in my life since then, but I imagine one thing will stay true: my nerdiness will never die!

Magic: The Gathering - My Thoughts on Deck Building

So, as I promised to a reader, I am writing this post about how I go about deck building.
First, I consider the cards I have at my disposal. Frankly, the ideal deck is useless without the flimsy cardboard. I look for a pattern amongst the cards. Perhaps a useful mechanic, a color, a similar card type, or a combination will arise out of the collection.
From there, I create my win condition(s). How will I use these cards to win?
Then, I choose the best cards to achieve my objection and consider there usefulness. The more specific cards get put into a sideboard.
Next, I consider the mana curve. This allows for the cards to move into each other, flowing with the addition of lands. This also determines the number of lands I put into the deck.
Finally, I test it out by playing a bunch of games.
That is my strategy. :)

Arkham Blood Bowl Resolution

Well, on Wednesday, I played my final game of Blood Bowl for the season we held. The season took much longer due to unexpected breaks, but it was a ton of fun.

I ended the season 2-5, but it was a good learning experience. I found I wasn't having much fun with the dwarves, so I am preparing a Wood Elves force to use for next season.

Hopefully, I can get the computer game to work and I can get some more playing time.
