1500 Space Wolves

I played this list today at Arkham, and it performed incredibly well on the table-top. Any thoughts on it?

Njal-245

3 Wolf Guard-134
3 Combi-Melta, 3 Power Fists, 1 Meltabomb

5 Wolf Scouts-85
Meltagun

5 Wolf Scouts-85

Rhino-35

Land Speeder-70
Multi-Melta, Heavy Flamer

Land Speeder-70
Multi-Melta, Heavy Flamer

(3) 5 Long Fangs-115 each

Check it out. This is my teammate's analysis of the tournament. It was a TON of fun, and I met some awesome new people. I enjoyed all of my opponents, and I hope to compete in more tournaments in the future.

8 Khorne Berserkers-188
 Power Weapon, Meltabombs
Rhino-45
  Combi-Melta

Defiler-150

Defiler-150

Vindicator-125

6 Rhinos on the field with 41 Marines, 3 Large Blasts, and 16 Meltaguns (2 Combi). Move forward and hold the middle. Chosen and Plague Marines break transports for the Khorne to wreck in assault (in theory). The Lord can be put in any of the squads, mostly for a few extra attacks, LD for the Chosen, and a few ablative wounds. I kinda dig it.

Thunder... Lizards?

So, a friend of mine at Arkham was playing a game of Fantasy with his Dark Elves. I took a look at one of these Cold One Knights and measured it up to a Space Marine. My brain made a giant leap.

What if I used these Cold Ones as mounts for a TWC counts as? That to me sounds epic. I really don't like the appeal or idea of a giant wolf mount; a lizard is much more appealing. It also ties into my own chapter fluff, and it could create some interesting background and stories. I am digging this idea.

New Name, Same Old Guy

So, it occurred to me that Dobie Gillis is technically a copyrighted name and television show... So I figured to save my ass, I might as well fend off any issues and take my token DnD name: Rarkthor. I am notorious amongst my friends and others to be a Dwarf fan. Gimli is my man, I always play a Dwarf in DnD, and I just love the name.

Trust me, fellows, everything is still the same. Same old material. Just a name change.

Dark Millenium: A 40k MMO

I really don't care how much that game might suck, or how much better WoW is. (Yeah... right..) I am gonna be buying this game as soon as it hits the shelves. Google it: It looks awesome.

31 Missile Space Wolves

Hey everyone. It's been a little bit since I have made a posting, but I should have a Battle Report from this coming Saturday (or two hopefully) and some other good content. Life has been busy these past couples days, so I am looking forward to the weekend.

I was looking through some old lists that I have brought to the table, and I found a personal favorite of mine. Early in the Space Wolves codex, I noticed the sheer amount of missiles you could throw into a list. So, I made an endeavor to fit as many missiles as humanly possible, while still being somewhat viable. So I made this 2,000 point list:

Logan Grimnar-275

Rune Priest-110
Jaws of the World Wolf, Storm Caller, Wolf Tooth Necklace

10 Wolf Guard-275
2 with Terminator Armor and Cyclone Missle Launcher, Combi-Melta

10 Wolf Guard-275
2 with Terminator Armor and Cyclone Missle Launcher, Combi-Melta

10 Wolf Guard-275
2 with Terminator Armor and Cyclone Missle Launcher, Combi-Melta

10 Wolf Guard-230
1 with Terminator Armor and Cyclone Missle Launcher, Combi-Melta

Land Speeder-70
Multi-Melta, Heavy Flamer

Land Speeder-70

5 Long Fangs and 1 Leader-140
5 Missle Launchers

5 Long Fangs and 1 Leader-140
5 Missle Launchers

5 Long Fangs and 1 Leader-140
5 Missle Launchers

31 missiles. Pew. Pew. I could add more...

GW has a deal?

Yes sir. Best product I have ever found: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1400016&prodId=prod900140a

There are so many excellent bits, and it comes with the ability to make 5 badass robed veterans. For $13.25? Absolutely.

If you play Marines, you should get this set. You will be pleased.

Tyranids: How do you combat Null Deployment?

So, as I have been recently doing, I took pictures and gathered some notes from a game I got on Saturday, April 10th against my buddy BlueEquis ( www.termagantswellspent.blogspot.com ) . Well, I lost the pictures on my phone and the notes have disappeared... -_-

In summary, it was a very close game. It went down late in the game, scrambling for objectives. His big monsters were still alive and managed to kick off my scoring units at the last turn.

Which brings me to my main question: With many shooting armies, having targets is rather important. I lose an entire turn of shooting against his null deployment force. Then, with hive commander, many of his units are able to come in turn 2 without a large amount of difficulty.

How do you combat this sort of list?

Man I have a lot of stuff...

So, I recently took an inventory of all of my Marine models. I have a TON of stuff. I found that I have enough models for 6 full Tactical Squads with about 30 Marines left over. I also have plenty of Hero models, Terminators, and Heavy Weapons. It's becoming a little silly.

Seeing all of these models out has inspired me to get to painting! I have too many black, grey, or older painted models that just need new paint. I also have a model I am gonna try to paint up and give to the display case at Arkham Games.

Look to see more pictures of painted models. In addition, I'm gonna need to get a lot of new bits..

Initial Deployment Pictures:

Kyle Turn 1
Pre-Game: Kyle assigns Dante's Death Mask to my Librarian reducing WS, A, and W by 1. Ugh. The Sanguinor also challenges Pedro. None of his models rolled for the Red Thirst.
Movement: Everything goes forward.
Shooting: Units run for varying distances.
No Assault

Dobie Turn 1
Movement: Land Speeders fly forward. The Terminators teleport in front of the Golden Horde. The Sternguard also drop in front. The Rhinos moves into position to lay down some Lascannon shots.
Shooting: The left Land Speeder shot down a Sanguinary Guard. The right Land Speeder immobilized the Dreadnought. Sternguard shooting knock out a guard, and the right Devastators rip off the multi-melta from the Dreadnought.

Kyle Turn 2
Movement: Everything keeps on flying foward
Shooting: The infernus pistol squad wreck the Drop Pod. The Sternguard absorb the fire, and then recieve a charge from one squad of Sanguinary Guard and the Sanguinor.
Assault: The Sanguinary Guard and Sanguinor kill off 8 of the Sternguard with Furious Charge. My power fist puts a wound on the Sanguinor and Pedro kills the Sanguinary Priest. The Sternguard hold.

Dobie Turn 2
Movement: The Terminators move foward towards the right Sanguinary Guard. My rhinos move closer into position for a well-timed bolter torrent.
Shooting: One Furioso is shaken. The Dreadnought is wrecked by Missile Launchers on the right.
Assault: The Terminators charge the Sanguinary Guard, and are wiped out by Lightning Claws! One Terminator does bite the dust. On the Sternguard combat, the rest of the Sternguard are wiped out. Pedro lives with 1 wound! He holds.

Kyle Turn 3
Movement: The last Sanguinary Guard squad fly over to the Assault Terminators.
Shooting: The Land Speeder is stunned on the left side, and recieves a charge from a Furisoso.
Assault: 3 of the Terminators are killed, but the entire Sanguinary Guard squad is wiped out!

Dobie Turn 3
Movement: The Tactical Squads move into the fray and ready their bolters on the Sanguinary Guard
Shooting: Both full tactical squads open fire and kill the Sanguinor! The missiles also kill off the Furioso with shots to the back.
Assault: My Terminators assault a lone Sanguinary Priest and is quickly wiped out.

Kyle Turn 4
Movement: The last Sanguinary Guard moves into charge range of the Terminators
Shooting: The Guard open fire onto the Terminators and kill off one.
Assault: The Sanguinary Guard kill a Lightining Claw Terminator and the Librarian. The Terminators retaliate and wipe out the squad to a man.

Dobie turn 4
Movement: I moved the speeders behind the last Furioso Dreadnought. I move one of the Tacticals to prepare a meltagun for the Dreadnought, and the other to charge and kill the last Sanguinary Guard.
Shooting: The Furioso blows up and actually kills 2 of my marines.
Assault: Power Weapon Sergeant kills the last Guard! Game over!

Quite a blood bath. Kyle is always an entertaining player, and it was an excellent game. Chalk up a win for the Shadow Guard.

Battle Report: Shadow Guard vs. Chaos Space Marines

So last thursday, March 31st, I played a 1500 point game with a friend of mine at the game store named Wes. Wes plays Chaos Space Marines, and I figured with the activity I've had about the CSM, I thought I would get a game in with him!

His list:

Daemon Prince (Which is actually a Cthulu model!) -150
Mark of Nurgle, Wings

10 Chaos Space Marines-180

20 Chaos Space Marines-400
Icon of Khorne

10 Plague Marines-230

10 Khorne Berserkers-210
Rhino-35

6 Raptors-120

2 Obliterators-150

50 Models in a 1500 list... jesus.

I tried a new variation on my original 1500 Shadow Guard:

Pedro Kantor-175

Dreadnought-105

Dreadnought-105

10 Sternguard-300
5 Combi-Meltas, Power Fist
Drop Pod-35

10 Tactical Marines-185
Lascannon, Meltagun
Rhino-35

10 Tactical Marines-185
Lascannon, Meltagun
Rhino-35

6 Devastators-166
4 Missile Launchers

6 Devastators-166
4 Missile Launchers

It was a Pitched Battle, "Capture the Draw" mission. Here are some pics of the intial set-up:

Wes Turn 1
Movement Phase: Khorne Berserkers drive foward and pop smoke. His Vindicator moves foward 6 inches, as do his Raptors and IoK Mod. The Cthulu also flies foward.
Shooting: Running Mob, Cthulu and Raptors. The Vindicator fires and knocks out 2 Missile Launchers and Marine from the far left Devs. The Oblitz completely whiff on the Dreadnought with Lascannons
No Assaults.

Dobie Turn 1
Movement Phase: I move the Dreadnought and Rhinos foward towards his objective (The Skaven). I drop my Sternguard in the middle of his force, taking a massive gamble. They land directly in the middle of everything. BIG BALLZ.
Shooting: I stun the Rhino with some missiles. Everything else misses. The Sternguard kills 9 of the Angry Marines, but a sternguard falls to a gets hot roll. Chaos Marines pass leadership.
No Assaults.

Wes Turn 2

Movement: He again drives 6 inches with the Vindicator, the Khorne, and the Raptors. He moves all of the CSM and Plague Marines to kill my Sternguard.
Shooting: He kills a Dev with the Vindicator and shoots 5 Sternguard. Crap.
Assault: Wes charges the Sternguard with all of the marines, dishing out about over 100 dice worth of attacks. After all of his attacks, he only kills 3 and puts 1 wound on Pedro. Pedro retaliates and knocks out 3 Plague Marines and the Sternguard knocked out 1 Marine. Tied combat? Shit. He also charges Cthulu into my other Dreadnought, immobilizing and pulling off the DCC. Damn

Aaron Turn 2

Movement: The Rhino moves foward, releasing its Tactical Squad. The other Rhino also moves over in preparation.
Shooting: The Tactical Squad pops out and kills the Raptors. The Devs kill a few Berserkers.
Assault: Pedro takes one wound, and the Sternguard are swiftly killed. Pedro kills 2 Plague Marines and a CSM dies. Won combat? Jesus Christ. 1 Plague Marine dies to No Retreat! The CSM pass leaderships.

Wes Turn 3
Movement: Khorne and the Rhino move foward.
Shooting: The far right Dreadnought blows up!
Assault: Khorne fail difficult terrain test, Cthulu wrecks the Dreadnought, and Pedro is defeated.

Aaron Turn 3
Movement: Moved Rhino with Tactical Marines foward.
Shooting: Combined shooting of both squads puts only 3 Wounds on Cthulu. The Devs kills 2 more Berserks, and the far right Devs kill two Angry Marines.
No Assaults

Wes Turn 4
Movement: Wes moved the Plague Marines back onto the objective. He Cthulu into charging ranges, as well as the Khorne Berserkers.
Shooting: Plasma Cannon kills 3 Tactical Marines (Squad 2). They break and run 11 inches back.
Assault: The Khorne charge Squad 1 and kill 4, taking only one casualty. Cthulu kills Rhino. The CSM also grenade the Drop Pod into oblivion.

At this point, Squad 2 falls off the board, the Khorne will mop up the Marines with help from Cthulu. I call it and concede defeat to Wes. 50 Models is a TON to handle, and I took a massive bite and choked with my Sternguard. The Dreadnoughts were a waste of points. I'm gonna stick with my normal Assault Terminator/Librarian group. Kudos to Wes for a victory and a great game!

Final Pictures:

Warmachine?

So, The Eternal Warriors podcast has now made a larger emphasis on the Warmachine game and models. I also know that there is quite a showing of Warmachine at my former gaming store, and a player or two at the current one.

I am curious as to the nature of the game. I have never really played or even seen a game of Warmachine occur.

Anyone have any opinions or thoughts about it? It would never really be more than a skirmish game system for me, just a game I could play as an aside. 40k will be my one true love. =]
