Life sometimes just gets in the way...

I have been less than active on my blog recently, despite having quite a bit of gaming going on. School and other responsibilities have been moving in on my ability to post. I will be trying better in the future to get more updates and posts. This is my creative outlet. It's always nice to have somewhere to post about my thoughts, whether people read it or not. So without further ado, some gaming updates:

Warhammer Fantasy/40k: I have been doing some painting! The weather became nice enough to get some primer on my models, and I managed to get some base colors on. I am thoroughly excited to be painting again. Also, I have been working on a solid 1750 list for my Shadow Guard for a tournament back in Frederick in March. I got one game in so far, and the army was trashed by my friend Ben's Reserve Nids. I learned a lot in that game though, and I'll need to get some more practice games in with the list.

Magic: I have been building a Red Burn/Aggro and Black/Blue infect control. I actually found some new Event decks that will give me more of the cards I need to make these decks. Oh, the irony. I love it. For the time being, I'll be satisfied with maybe not being the greatest standard player, but I will try to make some effort to rise.

RPGs: I actually may be joining a new WoD (World of Darkness) campaign, which I am fairly excited for. I am also hoping to get some DnD/Pathfinder action as well.

So, that's the update. I'm working on a Battle Report as well, so hopefully, I can get that up soon. Expect more from me soon.

Is Magic more competitive than 40k?

Hell. NO.

Magic rewards those who spend money and collect the cards. If you have $100 for a Jace the Mind Sculpter, you can do it, and tend to win lots of games. Deck building eventually becomes, what kind of awesome cards can I fit into this deck? How many Mythic Rares can I slam into 60 cards? -_-

40k, however, does not require the spooge factor. Ork players can attest that the cheap (relatively) AoBR set gives plenty of viable and great models for competitive measures. 30 boys is still 30 boys.

I am often reminded why I like 40k so much better, but I still love Magic for the casual gaming and fun. 40k is the game I dedicate myself too. =]

Rift: A better MMO?

So, my friend Nick found out about this new MMO called Rift. According to him, about 75% of the guild he is currently involved with is gonna switch.

I was interested and took a look myself. I was very impressed by the amount of class customization and other nuances that the game added. The lore and the races seem pretty new and complex, and the lore sounds engaging.I am hopeful for a new game that will surpass WoW.

Slash and Burn

So, I have made some excellent modifications to my Red/Blue deck for Magic. I added in more Control elements including Mind Control, Negate, and Unsummon. The red element has become much more stream-lined, and focuses entirely on the damage side. It so far has been tremendously effective, and I am having a lot of fun with it.

I also made a Horde Black deck, with the highest mana cost card being 4. :) Trying to make it work, but its been hard so far. Magic and Warhammer has been the highlights recently. I'm hoping to put a battle report up tomorrow. :)

This is pretty damn cool...

Fan-dexes and rules modification group. They want to take 40k by the reins and "do their own thing." This sounds like a ton of fun, and I'm hoping to add in my own development and ideas. Look for some more posts about these creations.

Paint schemes that...?

Portray the opposite of the army? For example, Khorne allegiance Blood Angels, or Space Wolves 13th company etc, etc,. I have seen quite a few of those ideas come to the service and I was wondering what people thought of them. Stick to the norms? Or perhaps do your own thing?

Personally, If I can tell exactly what each model is and does in the game, and it looks awesome, I have no complaints. I completely endorse originality in a ARTISTIC hobby. (Go figure)

What do you guys think?
